Burger Shack at The Loft, Wimbledon

Time & Leisure’s favourite foodie Sisley White visits the new bar and restaurant high above the streets of Wimbledon

High above the streets in Wimbledon is the newly opened bar and restaurant called The Loft. Inside this half inside and half outside venue is the Burger Shack, a burger bar with artisan style burgers filled with fresh toppings and packed full of taste but served with a fast food relaxed edge. Making the service of the food so relaxed, makes the meal so much more enjoyable and fun. There is no pretence in eating gracefully. It is good fun food which is meant to be enjoyed and you will get messy.

The Burger Shack boasts a small but impressive menu with a surprising variety of burgers. I ordered The Classic Burger, a prime British beef burger with ale onions, cheese, shredded lettuce, ketchup, mayo, pickles and served with curly fries. I swapped the regular curly fries for something a little more special – dirty curly fries. The delicious curly fries were served with rich and tasty pulled pork, avocado, sour cream and topped with a few hot chillies. This could have been a meal on it’s own and easy definitely the part of the meal we talked about the most.

My friend went for The Streaky burger which is similar to the classic but served with maple cured bacon inside the bun plus a helping of dirty fries too! With onion rings on the menu served with blue cheese and mayo on the menu we had to try them. The onion rings were huge and perfectly crispy. They added a lovely crunch to the overall meal.

To go with my meal I enjoyed a glass of the Chilean Colleccion Privada Reserva Merlot. It is a beautifully soft easily drinkable red wine with a fruity quality and a sweet note of vanilla. A lovely glass of wine on it’s own however it worked when beautifully when paired with the different tastes of the classic burger. A glass of red with beef and pulled pork should always be a good thing.

Although completely full we couldn’t leave without trying one of the puddings on offer and decided to share a key lime cheesecake. The base was thin and had a little bit of a crisp texture that complimented the fluffy, light and smooth cheesecake which tasted amazing. The lime made it very refreshing and was a brilliant want to finish off the meal.

The Loft and Burger Shack gave us a relaxed and delicious night out in the heart of Wimbledon. I for one will definitely be returning to try more of the items from the menu including The Veggie burger and the salted caramel milkshake made with tequila.
